Great post. I'm currently writing specs and a pilot for an audience of one, but this helps. If I never intended on getting work from the scripts, I'd still do it out of a desire to express in that form. But doing it to have a nice file when someone does call - that is good to keep in mind. Thanks.

Melissa Rosenberg (formerly of Dexter) said she will not hire a staff writer who was not first a writer's assistant. I think it is dependent on who your showrunner is and their own philosophy.

Hi:I'm thinking of trying the new version of Devon Note. Some people have noted stability problems with Devon products on the internet. After compiling and organizing my notes from Text Edit to Devon Note, I would begin writing the novel in Scrivener. What's your opinion?

Wow, I never thought about that. Being a writer's assistant always just seemed like the logical first step. Very interesting indeed.

Glad you're digging it, Evan!

I was also blown away by how nutrient-packed the entire talk is. Cannell takes charge from the get-go and never lets up. Makes me envious of the USC students who get to hear ALL of these talks - not just the few they release to iTunes.
